Rising Newport artist L E M F R E C K is set to self-release his powerful new EP ‘The Pursuit’ on 22 October. To mark the announcement, fans can listen to new track Closer ft. Kiddus.

Closer is about being around loads of people but still feeling lonely”, L E M F R E C K explains, “It forced me to a dark place, and without being able to afford therapy I wrote this out of desperation. I knew I needed to talk to someone but didn’t know who”.

Vulnerable and honest, Closer offers a glimpse into the journey L E M F R E C K has endured to get here. How it may seem that the waters are calm but the current is wild. His music is fully versed in the art of storytelling, from his roots as a Newport gospel session artist, to his time as a producer for the Pirate grime scene in Bristol and Wales, to present day where he’s set up shop in the vibrancy of South London.

Forthcoming EP The Pursuit is a time capsule of his life experiences. Breaking down his experiences as a black youth growing up in Wales, following the pursuit of love, happiness, violence and self worth. Self-produced and self-released, the release excels in unique storytelling with underground gritty sounds and honest detailed lyricism.

I’m too excited about this project, I know it’s cliche but for myself, after the year we’ve had, being able to create something was a complete saving grace for me. I was able to pour all the negativity and energy into this and I’m better for it. The EP follows the idea of pursuing. With Falling it’s love, with Kings it’s respect and with closer it’s Peace of mind”, he adds.

To date L E M F R E C K has seen support from BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio Wales, No Signal, Amazing Radio, alongside landing a well-earned place on BBC Introducing’s Ones To Watch in 2021 list. Other plaudits include Trench, Blatantly Blunt, Buzz Mag and Guap.
