L.A. alt pop next big thing ‘NIA C.C.’ is outstanding and her single ‘Animal’ is simply wonderful! Enjoy it the November 8th in Formula Indie!
Nia CC is an American alt pop singer songwriter whose music sounds like her diary
fell into a guitar and started telling stories. Animal, her new single (out Oct 22),
states that “There’s nothing scarier than unrequited love. Throw dream chasing into
the mix of the equation and you’re left with ‘Animal.’ A song all about the struggles
of loving someone who loves their dreams more.
An evocative writer, Nia CC’s bubbly lyrical spontaneity is equally at ease with
lighthearted observations about relationships as it is in describing what it’s like
growing up as a person of color in the US. “My music is like a cloud, sometimes
dreary, sometimes rainy and sometimes cheerful, but always moving.”

Nia CC began taking piano lessons at the age of 4, and wrote her first song, about
Disney World, when she was 8 years old, realizing early on that songwriting was
something she wanted to do. At age 12, she taught herself how to play the guitar
and the ukulele. Throughout school she was active in choirs, and took dance classes
ranging from ballet to jazz and hip hop. Currently studying music and
African-American studies at the University of Virginia, Nia CC has a catalogue of
500+ songs to her name and is working on her thesis album titled “On Trial,” which
explores the history and dynamics of Blackness at UVA through a collection of songs.
