SHORT INTERVIEW SERIES : Jason Justly introducing Strangers Again

“Strangers Again” is a synthpop breakup anthem that blends emotional lyrics with nostalgic synths and a melodic, punchy drive.
Jason Justly wrote and recorded the song in his home studio in Belgium, and worked with a professional for co-production, mixing, and mastering — ensuring a polished, radio-ready sound.
The track reflects on how two people can slowly drift apart after years of closeness — becoming strangers again.
It’s his 20th independent release since 2021 and is inspired by artists like Robyn, Troye Sivan, and Owl City.
Q: What’s the story behind your latest release?
Strangers Again actually started as a demo back in the summer of 2024. I loved the vibe, but it didn’t have any lyrics yet — it was just this emotional, dreamy sound. Then, after a breakup at the start of 2025, everything fell into place. The song suddenly had a clear purpose: to tell the story of separation and help me process it. It became a personal way to heal and move forward.
Q: Your sound is so professional and full — is it group work or do you trust your producers?
Thanks! I usually do everything myself: production, mixing, and mastering. I taught myself how to do it all back in 2021, which was a big turning point for me. I love the DIY spirit — it shows what you can achieve if you really believe in yourself. That said, I did work with a professional for Strangers Again and Blue Eyes, to co-produce, co-mix, and co-master. But I was there for every step, even video chatting during mixing to give instant feedback. I need to feel connected to every part of the process.
Q: You’re Belgian — why do you sing in English? Do your musical influences play a role?
Absolutely! I grew up listening mostly to English music — artists like Owl City and Taylor Swift really shaped me. English just feels like the natural language for the sound I’m trying to create. But fun fact: I’ve written songs in Dutch and French too, since I started writing music when I was 6. So who knows… maybe I’ll release one in my native tongue someday!
Q: How would you describe your sound?
Three words: dreamy, emotional, pure. People often compare my sound to Owl City, which is a huge compliment because he’s been my biggest inspiration since forever.
Q: What’s one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
For years, I had all these songs in my head — lyrics, melodies — but I didn’t know how to turn them into real music. That frustrated me for a long time. Then at the end of 2020, I finally dove into music theory and production. That’s when the Jason Justly project was born. It truly feels like a boy’s dream come true — finally being able to share what used to live only in my imagination.
Q: What tools or software do you rely on in your studio?
I work in Logic Pro. One plugin I absolutely love is Arturia’s Analog Lab V — it’s packed with inspiring sounds and I use it a lot in my productions.
Q: What’s one song from another indie artist you love right now?
Magic Summer by The Last Concorde! It’s so dreamy — it literally gave me chills the first time I heard it.
Q: What’s next for you? Any upcoming releases or shows?
Right now, I’m taking a little breather. I’ve released 20 singles in 4 years, and I do it all myself — so it’s time to rest and recharge. That said, I’m always creating, always exploring new ideas and collaborations. I also just filmed my first-ever music video for Strangers Again, which was a dream come true. Performing live is next on the bucket list. I can’t wait to bring these songs to life on stage someday!
Q: Where can listeners follow your music?
You can find me everywhere under Jason Justly — Spotify, Apple Music, Instagram, YouTube… wherever you love listening to music or connecting with artists!
