SHORT INTERVIEW SERIES _ Wingfish introducing Looking forward

Looking Forward captures the band’s commitment to a live and homogeneous feel during the recording process, eschewing perfection for an energetic and dynamic vibe. Jesper’s post-tracking experimentation with elements like old noisy radio, backwards echo, and infinite sustain guitar added layers of creativity to the EP. As the only original member remaining, Jesper reflects on the release fondly, noting the evolution of Wingfish since 2004 while these timeless tracks remain a staple on their setlists, showcasing the band’s enduring musical legacy.
What’s the story behind your latest release?
Looking Forward originally came out on CD in 2004. Several years later it was released on streaming services. This summer I rereleased it with some minor metadata corrections. I was curious about how a 20+ Year old EP would be received.
You are from Denmark but you sing in english, is a natural thing for you since your musical influences? Do you ever tried to write music in Danish?
I prefer writing and singing in english. I’m used to constructing a sentence in english before danish. I have written some songs in danish from time to time, but they tend to get a bit silly.
How work for you the recording process, is something that you made on your own ?
It’s all selfmade. The recording processes differ from one session to the next. Sometimes a band recording, sometimes I track every instrument myself.
How would you describe your sound?
It tends to get a little bluesy underneath the rock sound.
What’s one thing you’ve learned that completely changed the way you make music?
I’ve learned that I prefer live recording with it’s flaws over click track recording.
What tools or software do you rely on in your studio?
I have been using n-Track Studio for a long time – my go-to DAW☺️
What’s one song from another indie artist that you love right now?
I’ve been listening to Knife Emoji a lot lately. “Doppelgang” is a great track.
What’s next for you? Any upcoming releases or shows?
I am working on an album called “Dyads”. The first single, “Gentle Ally” is already out.
