‘On Any Other Day’ was written in response to the impact of Covid lockdowns. ‘S J Denney’ is a selfconfessed introvert. Despite this, he still found the last couple of years incredibly tough, like the vast majority of people. The track was written in February 2021 and focuses on how he’d act on his first day of freedom. The song features a horn section and a sweeping harp line. Blissy – the leading track from ‘Vandal of Heart’ debut album, Bad Dream – is a tribute to music. It was inspired by his desire to explore what he believe music to be capable and incapable of. In this sense, he thinks Blissy is rare – because, whilst music can help us feel better and provoke thought (a gift in itself), it cannot cure personal ills. New Enemies is proof that music transcends time and space. After a good amount of regional success, the Philly-based indie band “Turning Violet Violet” called it quits in 2013. The members moved on to other pursuits, like starting families and careers. Fast-forward to nearly a decade later, and four of the members are back with ‘New Enemies’. The music is earnest yet relaxed.
